Glass-top stoves allow you to clean the entire stovetop without worrying about specific burners, drip pans, or the possibility of soapy crumbs going onto the oven insulation below. It’s also very easy to clean because the heating components are positioned under the glass.

Before you begin any repair, make sure you have all your supplies available.

  • Slot & Phillips Screwdrivers
  • Work Gloves
  • Stout Prop
  • Replacement Glass

Safety First!

Unplug the stove before using it to ensure no electricity runs through it. If you can’t reach the socket, consider tripping the kitchen breaker and achieving repairs by lamplight.

Release The Glass Cooktop

You’ll need to take out your glass cooktop now. The first step is to remove the cooktop from its mounting position atop the oven.

  • Close the Oven Door

Begin by opening the oven door as far as you are able. Make sure the stovetop and oven are both turned off and thoroughly cool.

  • Remove the screws from behind the stove’s lip.

Locate where the cooktop extends to produce a lip with the door open. A pair of screws may be found behind the lip of this cooktop (typically covered by the top edge of the burner door). Remove the screws with your screwdriver and place them somewhere secure.

  • Flip the Cooktop Upside-Down

Use a prop to keep the cooktop open while you work on it, such as a piece of wood or paint. Raise the front of your original glass top surface, so it opens like a hinged door. Avoid touching or damaging any insulation surrounding the oven’s inner chamber.

Remove The Burners

The next step is to remove all of the burners, including brackets, so that they can be easily transported to the next glass cooktop. This is the most difficult portion of the procedure.

  • Unplug the Wire Harnesses

Begin by removing the two wire harnesses, one from the front and the other from the rear of the stove. Because they are necessary for the stove to heat up, treat the wire components still attached to the stove with extreme caution.

  • Both ends of the mounting screws should be removed.

Glass-top stoves allow you to clean the entire stovetop without worrying about specific burners or drip pans. The glass is heat-conducting and looks fantastic in your kitchen. It’s also very easy to clean because the heating components are positioned under the glass.

Replace The Glass Cooktop

  • Remove the Old Glass-Top

You may carefully raise the glass top while pushing away now that the burners are free. The glass top should now be able to peel away from the rear panel.

  • Hinge Tabs should be transferred.

Two little metal pieces on the backsides of the glass cooktop serve as hinge tabs. They aid with the alignment and locking of the cooktop onto the stove’s rear panel. Remove the hinge tabs from the old cooktop and replace them on the new stove.

  • Fit and Place the New Glass-Top

Now you may gently set the new stove in its place. To begin, align the hinge tabs with their proper slots or spaces in the stove’s back panel. Then, using a prop, raise the front end and press the rear end into position.

Secure the Glass Cooktop

  • Lower the glass top and secure it in place.

Remove the prop and lower the glass top surface until it is flush with the stove’s top. You may have to push backward for a final fit into the stove’s back panel and align the front corners.

  • Return the Mounting Screws to their original location.

To finish your repair, reinstall the mounting screws on the bottom of the glass-front top’s lip. Plug the stove back in and fire up the burners. If each burner glows and your stovetop feels secure, you have succeeded.
